Editor's Pick

This open source eye-tracking system, Eyewriter, helped to bring art back into the life of L.A. graffiti artist, publisher and activist Tony Quan, aka TEMPTON. Quan was diagnosed with ALS in 2003 and was left completely paralyzed, save for his eyes. But thanks to members of Free Art and Technology (FAT), OpenFrameworks, the Graffiti Research Lab, and The Ebeling Group, this low cost open source system allows him, and others afflicted with ALS to draw via the movement of their eyes. The project was a category winner in the 2010 Brit Insurance Design Awards.
