Comedic master David Shane gets behind the lens for Deutsch L.A.'s newest Volkswagen spot, an '80s retro film that begins with an animated sequence featuring a Volkswagen driver racing a bunch of biker dudes, backed by the classic song, "Take on Me," by A-ha.

As you can imagine, the animation takes inspiration from the tune too -- and the ad was created in the same method as the track's original rotoscoped video. The action was first filmed, then animated, making for a different process than the typical shoot since lighting and sound didn't come into the picture. But as anyone who has been brave enough to croon that new wave song during a spirited karaoke session knows -- it's not an easy tune to sing.
