Ben Simmons, the overwhelming favorite to be the number one pick in this week's NBA draft, starred in two amusingly different versions of a Foot Locker commercial last night during the announcement.
The idea of the campaign, by BBDO New York, is that his dream of being a pro and everything that comes with it is about to become real. But dreams don't always come true exactly how we expect. The first spot, "It's Not Real Yet," aired during the draft broadcast, in the commercial pod before Australian player Simmons was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers.
The idea was that, because Simmons wasn't picked yet, he had to make do with his own "homemade" Foot Locker commercial featuring a "homemade" cameo from last year's Rookie of the Year Karl-Anthony Towns. The second spot aired after Simmons he was picked, and is a "real" Foot Locker spot, complete with more realistic advice from Towns.
