Fans Bleed to Pay for Goods

Not that The Walking Dead is hurting for fans, but when Season 4 of the zombie series was about to come out in Portugal, broadcaster Fox wanted to herald its arrival, and simultaneously do good, with this very bloody campaign.

Considering the graphic nature of the show, agency Torke+CC decided to use real blood to draw viewers into an unusual store selling Walking Dead products. In order to pay for the goods, customers simply had to donate vials of their own red stuff.

The broadcaster teamed with Portuguese national blood bank institute IPST, which saw a 571% increase in blood donations compared to the previous year -- 67% of which were made by first-time donors. Viewers of the show also jumped 17% compared to those on season 3.
