This holiday ad is like the reindeer version of 'E.T.'

SuperValu delivers a message of 'recovery' with Spielberg-esque vibes in spot from TBWA/Dublin

A little girl helps an injured deer in a sweet holiday ad from Irish retailer SuperValu, illustrating a message of "recovery" after a difficult year.

The spot, by TBWA/Dublin, tells the story of Aoife, who wakes up one morning to a strange noise. Accompanied by her parents, she hurries outside to find an injured wild deer in her back garden. She helps it back on its feet and is determined to get it back to Santa for Christmas Eve—despite the best efforts of her parents to let her down gently and tell her that it isn't really Santa's reindeer.

However, there's a heartwarming ending in store, with a hint of Spielberg-esque movie magic. The ad was directed by Ben Liam Jones via Antidote Films.

“We felt the theme of recovery was what we should tackle this year," commented Paul Arthurs, head of art at TBWA\Dublin, in a statement. "Addressing and understanding our customers’ journey since last Christmas was what we believed would resonate. And an optimistic belief in the future, as a take out, is one that feels magical especially at Christmas.”
