Millions of Canadian kids grow up dreaming about becoming hockey stars. So, in this spot marking its sponsorship of the World Cup of Hockey in Toronto, Scotiabank tapped into their aspirations in a spot that recreates four iconic hockey goals -- from Bobby Orr, Lanny McDonald, Mario Lemieux and Paul Henderson -- using kids.
The spot is directed by Gary Freedman (Glue Society) via Toronto-based OPC for agency Bensimon Byrne. It uses audio and footage of the original goals alongside images of modern-day kids (both boys and girls) scoring the goals and celebrating in identical style. It ends with the words: "The 5th Season is when kids dream big," in reference to Scotiabank's ongoing campaign around hockey based on the idea that Canada has a fifth season -- the hockey season.
