Australian retailer David Jones has scored something of a coup in getting Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett to star in, and narrate, its Christmas spot this year.

In the ad, created by TBWA/Sydney and directed by Nick Ball at Blink, Blanchett asks, "How do you Christmas?" as we see vignettes illustrating a variety of different ways Australians celebrate the holiday. Nicely portrayed, they range from the low-key (two surfer girls throwing some fairy lights on a plant) to the over-the-top (ridiculous Christmas lights, or festive knits and a log fire even though it's sweltering outside), and there are some other funny moments, like the grown man who still sits on Santa's lap. But it's Blanchett's narration that really elevates this spot beyond the usual holiday fare -- and the bonus is that she appears at the end, too.
