Aldi Germany's festive spot is a wild romp of an ad directed for the retailer by Andreas Nilsson (whose U.K. TK Maxx Christmas ad has already delighted us this year.)
It kicks off at a wild, bachannalian party on Mount Olympus, where the gods are indulging in sumputous food and drink, and Zeus (quite possibly channeling Rhys Ifans in "Notting Hill,") is posing with his lightning bolt in his Y fronts. Until he's interrupted by an accountant-type, complaining that his parties are simply too expensive. "Even the morons on Earth can have parties like this," Zeus replies, to be told that the difference is that on Earth, there's Aldi. Cue a visit from Zeus to Aldi, where he fills his shopping cart and returns triumphant with some Aldi plastic bags.
It's silly and over-the-top, but certainly scores on the memorability front.
