Editor's Pick

Who knew that in Ice Cube's world of inspiration, you'd find a little bit of The Eames. That's what we discover in this short film, directed by @radical.media's Dave Meyer, from TBWA/Chiat/Day's ongoing campaign for Pacific Standard Time Art in L.A. exhibit, which celebrates the art scene in Los Angeles from 1945 to 1980. The campaign itself ranks among Creativity's picks for best TV/Film work of 2011, for its innovative, and often surprising pairings of pop culture icons and artists to promote PST exhibit.

Here, Ice Cube tours The Eames house in Pacific Palisades, praising the duo's pairing of unconventional materials in the building's construction: "They were doing mash-ups before mash-ups even existed." We also discover a little bit about why they've inspired him--before Ice Cube's music days, he had studied architectural drafting.

The campaign aims to get the everyman into the exhibit, even if they aren't art fans. Previous executions paired Jason Schwartzman with conceptual artist John Baldessari in a hilarious film that found that artist haunting the actor with every step he took, and Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis drove around town with artist Ed Ruscha. The campaign also includes a website and print ads.
