Ikea's budget 'Handmaid's Tale' costume will have you yelling 'Prisad vara!' in no time
The follow-up to last year's 'Game of Thrones' rug shawl requires a few more steps

Editor's Pick
Ikea is back with another budget Halloween costume, once again inspired by one of the country’s favorite TV shows. Last year, the retailer released instructions for turning one of its own rugs into a fur wrap for “Game of Thrones” cosplay. This year, Halloween falls just a few days before the midterm elections, so it’s fitting the latest costume is a bit more political.
With just a red Merete curtain for a hooded cloak and an Ekas lampshade for wings, it’s easy to create a handmaid costume from Hulu’s dystopian “The Handmaid’s Tale,” based on Margaret Atwood’s classic novel.
Just use a pair of Kvalificera scissors to cut the shade to size and the Handgjort is ready (literally “hand made” in Swedish). For the finishing touch, say “Prisad vara!” instead of trick-or-treat. That’s Swedish for “Praise be."
The Ikea-style wordless instructions are from SMFB Oslo, which was responsible for the previous entries in this innovative campaign. Note that this isn't a "sexy" handmaid costume, an ill-conceived idea that drew plenty of criticism before being pulled from shelves.
