This week, Spotify debuted the "I'm With the Banned" initiative, which aims to give a platform to voices that have been potentially shut down by recent political and social upheaval, presumably, under the current U.S. administration.

Created in-house, it includes a series of playlists of new music and original videos showcasing artists from Syria, Libya, Sudan, Somalia, Iran and Yemen -- all countries targeted by President Trump's travel ban, a modified version of which recently went into effect.

Spotify brought Iranian DJ and record producer Kasra V, Syrian singer/songwriter Moh Flow, Somali musical collective Waayaha Cusum, Yemini singer/songwriter Methal and Sudanese beatsmith Sufyvn and Libyan singer/songwriter Ahmed Fakroun to Canada, where they were free to collaborate with U.S. artists to create some of the new tunes.

Each of the artists' playlists sends listeners to iamanimmigrant.com, where they can see more stories about the valuable contributions immigrants have made to the United States.

The "I'm With the Banned" effort will subsequently feature more collaborations and content to highlight other communities affected by the current political climate.
