French supermarket chain Intermarche is preparing its customers for the end of quarantine with a new spot via agency Romance that captures the hope and poignancy of lockdown finally easing.

Set to Nina Simone track “Je suis seule mais desire être avec vous”/”I’m alone but I want to be with you,” the ad uses closed front doors, firmly shut house gates and empty entrance halls as a metaphor for lockdown, symbolizing the social isolation we've all had to get used to over the past months. However, we then see a gateway slowly opening up, and the enticing view, through a glass door, of visitors coming up the pathway and ringing the doorbell, bearing a bunch of flowers. "At last," it says. "We'll be there the day you organize that first dinner."

The spot was shot using FaceTime by director Katia Lewkowicz, who's also helmed previous emotive Intermarche ads including its romantic tale set in a grocery aisle from 2017
