The 'Muppet Show' theme backs John Lewis' jaunty spot about the fun you can have while stuck at home
Traktor directed ad from Adam&Eve/DDB showing home furnishings having a ball
Editor's Pick
John Lewis is pushing its home furnishing offering in a new campaign that focuses heavily on the fun you can have at home.
It includes a TV spot, created by Adam&Eve/DDB and directed by Traktor via Stink, in which a family stuck at home are entertained by their kids having fun with the furniture and putting on a show. To the well-known "Muppet Show" theme tune, we see lamps, sofas, tables and armchairs moving, apparently by themselves, as the mom takes part in online meetings, Dad returns from his daily exercise and a teenager does homework. Finally, the kids reveal a makeshift theater, where they are putting on a show.
According to John Lewis, the spot is "inspired by humorous situations we are experiencing in our homes as a result of spending so much time in them." It's part of a wider campaign showcasing the retailer's home products, which includes digital and social work as well as a new magazine for customers titled "At Home."
“Our customers have told us that their homes have never mattered more to them," said Claire Pointon, partner and customer director for John Lewis. "In addition to sleeping and eating they’ve had to use them to fulfill new functions such as offices, gyms, entertaining children and much more, and so they have proved to be the most important place in their lives."
The ad is one of a number we've seen recently highlighting making the most of your inside space, including paint brand Benjamin Moore paying tribute to the importance of walls, B&Q focusing on memories made inside a home and Barilla examining the role tables have been playing in our lives recently.
