Maybe it was George Hamilton's initials that led KFC to cook up its latest marketing stunt.

The ultra-tanned actor, who began playing the chicken chain's Extra Crispy Colonel in 2016, is appearing in Friday's episode of "General Hospital" on ABC. Friday just so happens to be National Fried Chicken Day.

KFC began tweeting about General Hospital last month, positioning itself as a fan.

After a few days of tweets, the plan was confirmed in a TV Insider "exclusive" look.

KFC has hyped the appearance since then, though plot details remained scarce before Friday afternoon's airing of the soap.

While KFC is getting plenty of hype for the show, the gimmick isn't going over well with some "General Hospital" fans.

Hamilton is one of several celebrities to appear in the Wieden & Kennedy campaign. A new round of spots featuring the actor began airing in April. In June, Hamilton, as his colonel character, was the guest speaker for graduates of the Art Institute of Portland.

KFC isn't the only fast feeder trying to woo customers with romantic tales this week. Wendy's is hyping six of its cold drinks on Wattpad with a series of stories mimicking romance novels. If the romance-novel-meets-fast-food genre sounds familiar, that's because KFC printed its own novella in May 2017.
