A Bag of Chips Trumps Messi in Lay's Global Spot

Soccer players and Pepsico's Frito-Lay chips go well together -- former England captain Gary Lineker has famously starred in the company's Walker's ads in the U.K. for years (including a recent vending machine stunt).

Lay's has also got in on the act recently with a series of global spots starring Argentina's Leo Messi, possibly the world's most famous soccer star, who's also suitably photogenic.

In the latest, by Barcelona agency Tiempo BBDO, Messi is strolling through an Italian village and is asked to pose for a portrait painter. He also happens to be munching on a bag of Lay's, and it turns out that this is the real draw.

The ad was actually filmed in Spain, and was shot by Australian director Bruce Hunt of Anorak, who has also worked with Lay's before. It's set to a jaunty adaptation of "Mambo Italiano" by Rosemary Clooney, done by Konga Music.
