It's all about the food for U.K. upscale supermarket Waitrose this year, in its first Christmas spot through Adam & Eve/DDB London.
This year's festive ad, directed by Simon Ratigan at HLA, is set to Cab Calloway's 1940s jazz classic "Everybody Eats When They Come to My House" with charming vignettes showing families preparing for the celebrations (Mother yawns as she stirs the Christmas pudding, Dad puts up decorations). There is also footage of farmers and suppliers, and a cameo from celebrity chef Heston Blumenthal, who makes several ranges for Waitrose.
The spot -- guaranteed to make you feel warm and cozy as well as starving hungry -- ends with the line "Whatever makes your Christmas, make it with Waitrose." The brand will also be encouraging people to share what really #MakesChristmas for them on its social channels.
Adam & Eve/DDB won the Waitrose business following BBH's resignation of the account after that agency won rival Tesco in January. The agency also handles Waitrose's parent company, John Lewis, whose highly anticipated Christmas ad will launch on Friday.
