Whether you’re a “Scream” virgin or can list all of Randy's rules by heart, a screening of the 1996 classic horror movie is in order.
In honor of the film’s 25th anniversary and in anticipation of the new franchise entry next month, Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media teamed with Facebook Creative Shop, Instagram and Messenger as well as superfan platform Hello Sidney for a real-time screening experience: "Movie Mate."
Starting today, December 20, "Scream" watchers can access "Movie Mate" by sending a direct message to the "Scream Movie" account on Facebook or Instagram. The app syncs with the film and messages participants behind-the-scenes content, exclusive photos and fun facts about the film. The experience can even be uniquely customized for first-time viewers or Ghostface fanatics.
In a promotional video for the service, actors Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox challenge new viewers to message in with their guesses for who is behind the original Woodsboro massacre.
“Creators are a huge part of our platforms at Meta and we are excited to announce the first Movie Mate created in partnership with top horror Instagram creators,” said Nicky Bell, VP global head of Facebook Creative Shop, in a statement. “The experience will give an inside look at the original ‘Scream’ movie from the most trusted source, the super fans! We are honored to partner with Paramount to create this immersive experience to celebrate the 25th anniversary of this film. We look forward to working with more partners on Movie Mate collaborations next year.”
