Vauxhall puts classic movie lines into a completely different (and droll) context

Campaign by Mother puts the lines into everyday British situations

Car brand Vauxhall takes classic, often creepy, movie lines and puts them into completely different context in a funny set of sponsorship idents to run across both the U.K.'s Sky Cinema and Channel 5 movies.

Vauxhall worked with Mother and MediaCom Beyond Advertising on the idents, which put the lines into everyday, often humdrum British situations. For example, "Here's Johnny," from "The Shining," is innocently uttered by a golfer when his friend appears late on the golf course, and the infamous "Star Wars" line, "Luke, no, I am your father!" comes as part of an argument with a son who wants to borrow his dad's car.

All the 16 different clips feature different Vauxhall cars, including the Mokka X, Crossland X and Grandland X, the Corsa and Insignia. The sponsorship will run thoughout this year on both channels, which have joint sales teams.

It's a clever campaign by Peugeot-owned Vauxhall, perhaps offering some rival humor to fellow auto brand Volkswagen's ongoing independent cinema sponsorship in the U.K. that shows how its cars are less suited to movie situations than real-life.
