Today marks the launch of MyBlockNYC, a new site where New Yorkers can help map out the texture and culture of the city with their own videos. Created by NY natives Alex Kalman and Alex Rickard, the site calls on residents to upload personal video accounts of their experiences in NYC, which will be viewable by geography. Each video helps to build out the website, block by block. Submissions can be made on the fly, or from New Yorkers' own archives. All films should be shot outside, within one NYC block.

The site will be part of The Museum of Modern Art exhibit Talk to Me: Design and Communication Between People and Objects. Organized by MOMA Senior Design Curator Paola Antonelli, it explores how technology is redefining the ever-evolving relationship between people and objects and runs from July 24 through November 7, 2011. The exhibit will feature a 40-inch touch screen kiosk where visitors will be able to view moments already captured. They can also step outside to upload their own films to the map.
