This delightful, absurdist dreamscape is a metaphor for your money angst
When life--and a chorus of dour angels--hold you back, German bank Sparkasse will push you forward
Editor's Pick
Feeling conflicted every time you want to buy something expensive, like a new sofa or a truffle pig? Well, Germany's largest bank Sparkasse is here to silence your mental nicht-sayers with a music video that triples down on bizarre visuals and absurd situations. It's meant to show how the lender can help you make sense of it all, despite the confusion that can accompany big financial decisions.
The short film was directed by Bernd Faass of Element E as part of a campaign from Berlin-based Jung von Matt/Spree. (See the original version in German here.) Also included are 19 other original songs, available as part of an online "Hit Machine" (best used by those who can spreche ein bisschen Deutsch). Users can even personalize them by changing the titles to include a friend's name and share them via social channels.
The prospect of crushing debt can make anyone sweat, so money lenders have been focused on sweetening the customer experience: see Rocket Mortgage from Quicken Loans or any number of friendly neighborhood bank spots. But how many of those can say they've got a talking turtle with people teeth?
