Oakley remakes Bob Marley's 'One Love' in uplifting anthem for today's trying times

Celeste performs the tune with new verses conceived with the help of pro athletes in campaign from AKQA

Bob Marley’s classic tune “One Love,” has re-emerged during the pandemic as a rousing, uplifting anthem, meant to inspire communities to band together through the chaos and confusion. Last month, the Marley family released a new version of the song in support of UNICEF’s work to support children affected by COVID-19, and now, Oakley has tapped singer-songwriter Celeste as well as a host of its own athletes for yet another remake of the tune.

The campaign, created out of AKQA, includes a music video starring pros like skateboarder Ryan Sheckler, surfer Italo Ferreira, WNBA star Diamond DeShields and Paralympic rower and cross-country skier Oksana Masters. The soundtrack features voiceovers of the athletes looking back on their careers, as well as the new version of Marley’s tune, performed by Celeste. The words and music speak directly to the sports pros' personal challenges in life and on the court, in the water and on the asphalt. What emerges is the story of their perseverance through adversity—a theme we also saw in Nike’s recent “You Can’t Stop Us” ad

Celeste and the athletes all contributed to the songs’ reworked verses. The music video is part of Oakley’s 2020 “For the Love of Sport” campaign, and the tune is now available to stream on Spotify and Apple Music.
