Google has been known to employ the simplest techniques to deliver powerful messages (take, for example, the "Parisian Love" spot that totally stole the 2010 Super Bowl). Now, the search giant gets even more basic in an intriguing teaser that features nothing but a slender grey rectangle resembling its search box.

Against a soundtrack featuring Redbone's "Come and get your love," the little window slowly morphs to get shorter, fatter and then longer vertically, eventually landing on what appears to be a silhouette of a smartphone. A date, Oct. 4 then appears, followed by a swirl of rainbow dots that converge into the brand's "G."

Copy on the Youtube post reads "Something new to love on Oct. 4," directing viewers to a teaser site, where a similar video plays.

Tech pubs believe that the teaser confirms previous rumors of the brand's new Pixel phone line, which may include 5 and 5.5 inch models, and that the phones will be the subject of the press event for which Google just sent out invites. The event will have a livestream on at 9 a.m. PST on October 4.
