The most wonderful time of the year? Not so much, says this Orange ad

Amongst all the heartwarming holidays ads on offer this year, here's one from French mobile brand Orange that goes against the grain -- but in a humorous way. 

To the strains of Andy Williams classic "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year," we see a series of holiday-related fails: a family car stuck in a snowdrift; unfortunate accidents with Christmas trees and lights; a woman looking furious at a Christmas dinner table full of fighting relatives; frustrated snowbound passengers in an overcrowded airport terminal. There's also Santa stuck in a chimney being hacked out by a fire crew, or alternately gritting his teeth as screaming kids sit on his lap at a mall. Basically, it's all the things that could possibly go wrong at Christmas, on steroids. Thank goodness then for Christmas gifts from Orange, which finally get people smiling at the end of the ad, as they unwrap them under the tree.

The ad is by Publicis Conseil, and was directed by Megaforce, via Iconoclast. It's running on TV and in cinemas, accompanied by a wider campaign that includes billboards, print, social media and special Orange vending machines in train stations.
