The 'Ordinary World' Is Like Disney for Kids in This Children's Hospital Spot
Spot Mimics Theme Park Advertising, and Ends on a Sobering Note
Editor's Pick
A new campaign for the famous London children's hospital, Great Ormond Street, mimics theme park advertising by demonstrating how the mundane, ordinary world is like a trip to Disney for sick kids.
In "ordinary world," even a ride in a shopping cart is described as if it's a thrilling rollercoaster ride, and a rainy day is pictured as a day in an exciting water park full of upside-down fountains. The over-excited voiceover and sprinkles of animated magic dust are in stark contrast with the final, sobering scene of a little girl alone in a hospital bed, as another narrator, Emmy award-nominated actor Olivia Colman, reminds us that for some children, getting back to the ordinary world is the ultimate excitement.
The spot is by Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO, and was directed by Andy MacLeod at Rattling Stick. It's airing in cinemas, as well as son TV and online. Much of the advertising space has been negotiated for free and at reduced cost through media buying agency Mediacom.
