This Totally Crazy, Dali-Esque French Ad Is About Booking Train Travel
Andreas Nilsson Directs Colorful Spot for OuiSCNF
Editor's Pick
France's main rail booking platform, Voyages-sncf.com, rebranded as OUI.sncf on Dec. 6. To communicate the new brand, agency TBWA/Paris seems to have gone all out for surreal craziness.
It secured the talents of Andreas Nilsson to direct the spot, which opens on the scene of a strange, Dali-esque desert, where a bizarre vehicle makes its way along a track lined with shards of glass. It's driven by a mysterious dude in a pink jacket and round shades, and carries a larger-than-life lady opera singer, who opens her mouth and belts out "Oui" across the landscape.
As she hits the top note, the shards explode to reveal other vehicles: a chocolate eclair with a model Eiffel Tower on board, a teapot containing a Buckingham Palace guard, ski cable cars, a giant sand castle and more. We're told that all these represent different travel inspirations being "liberated" by the lady. The spot ends with the words "Say Yes to Travel."
The campaign broke on Sunday with the launch of the 45-second film followed by shorter versions on TV until Feb.7. It will also feature 3,800 billboards installed nationally in train stations, the Paris metro and on buses, and a contest on Twitter and Facebook letting users try to win a trip to their favorite destination.
