Qantas Helps You Add Vacation Instagrams to Your Out-of-Office Message
A New Way to Show Off
Editor's Pick
These days it seems it's not enough to tell someone you're out-of-office -- you need to show what a good time you're having as well.
Qantas, the Australian airline, has found a way to link people's Instagram accounts to their out-of-office messages, so that they can create a "travelogue" of photos of their vacation for those receiving the message.
The system, developed by creative agency The Monkeys, connects people's email to their Instagram accounts and updates their auto reply email with photos they select and tag with the hashtag #qantasoutofoffice. So colleagues and business contacts with whom you're not already connected on social media can see all your holiday antics.
Now, you might think that this might be a sure-fire way to make people really envious, or even hate you a little bit, but according to Qantas sixty per cent of employees say they appreciate receiving something more creative than the usual bland out-of-office email. The brand also believes it'll boost travel bookings, as tips from friends and colleagues are the highest driver for people when choosing their next holiday destination.
Meanwhile, Sophie Blachford Instagram brand development lead, Australia and New Zealand, said in a statement that Instagram is proud to endorse the new service. "Qantas Out of Office Travelogue is a unique and clever platform for an airline because most people who are travelling will activate their out of office as their final gleeful gesture before jetting off."
