To promote an art exhibit, 'Romare Bearden:Southern Recollections' at the Mint Museum, Charlotte, agency BooneOakley is bringing two Bearden paintings to life directly in front of traditional outdoor ads that show the paintings.

Live musicians, one soloist and one trio, are dressed identically to musicians appearing in the paintings behind them. The soloist plays during morning rush at stops along Charlotte's Lynx light rail transit system, positioning himself so that, as the trains come in with ads for the Bearden exhibit on their sides, he lines up in front of the character he portrays, a musician in Bearden's 1982 'Evening of the Gray Cat.' Meanwhile, the guitar, bass and drum trio play on an elevated stand in front of a billboard for the exhibit.
