Tech Helps a Creative Little Girl Follow Her Dreams in HP's Uplifting International Women's Day Spot

Short Film Was Produced in Calcutta by an All-Female Team

In a moving spot by HP for International Women's Day, a creative little girl in India realizes her dream of becoming a writer thanks to some printing technology and a super-helpful teacher.

The short film, created by HP Studios and Simple Creative, was produced by a largely female team and shot in Calcutta by director Oni Sen. It centers on Paro, a creative little girl who is always daydreaming, drawing and writing stories--but sometimes to the detriment of her school work. Her parents and teachers are concerned by her math grades, and eventually her teacher confiscates the book she's writing and drawing in during a class. But when she reads it, she's so impressed that she scans and prints the pages, making it into a real book, and calling Paro up to the stage in assembly. The spot ends with the words "This International Women's Day, let's help every child to follow her dreams."

"'Paro' was created to spark discussion about dreaming big and chasing your passions, no matter your background or where you are in the world," says Antonio Lucio, Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, HP Inc. "We believe powerful stories--told vividly and authentically--can change minds and spark action. International Women's Day is a perfect reminder to always inspire action and stories are a perfect vehicle to touch hearts."

Alongside the film, HP will unveil a range of social impact programs and partnerships focused on women, partnering with organizations including Girl Rising, Women Deliver and Black Girls Code. For example, the Girl Rising project, starting April 2,will encourage girls to share a personal story using technology--whether that is a pen and paper, a photograph, a video or audio recording. The best submissions will win prizes including grants, HP products and services.
