'Plane Crash' Short Film Highlights a Prime Cut of Meat
Editor's Pick
O Positive director David Shane, known for his impeccable, awkward performances evident in SS+K's award-winning campaign for HBO Go, ads for Time Warner Cable and more, recently debuted a new short film, "Plane Crash," which puts a lewd, comedic twist on the survivor cannibal movie. (Possibly NSFW warning: strong language and, obviously, themes.)
In the short, likely inspired by the story of the 1972 Andes flight survivors and the film "Alive," a group of stranded men from a downed flight contemplate their "meal plan" until they are rescued. They vote, not surprisingly, in favor of cannibalism, while one of the guys offers to mitigate the grossness of it all by calling dibs on the priapic parts.
Mr. Shane directed the spot and co-wrote it with Josh DiMarcantonio, Eric Stevens, Matt Heath and the appropriately named Scott Organ, with whom he penned his previous film "Playdate."
"I had just finished making 'Playdate,' which was supposed to be a few degrees smarter than my usual stuff," Mr. Shane told Creativity, "so I was looking to do the stupidest, funniest thing possible as an antidote. And when Josh sent me this script he and Eric and Matt had written, it was pretty much 'search over.' Basically, we tried to make it look like a major studio had wasted $200 million on the world's dumbest conversation."
