Gaming is an escape from real-life 'monsters' in PlayStation's latest spot
Garth Davis directs cinematic spot for BBH New York

Could gaming be an outlet for all our 21st century mental angst?
That seems to be the message of a cinematic new spot from PlayStation, via BBH New York, in which a young woman, standing on a lonely road confronted by fog, solemnly informs us that "fear is a monster"....along with loneliness and doubt. But, she goes on to explain, "in our world" (i.e. the world of gamers) they "never fear monsters." She's joined by a huge crowd of ecstatic fellow gamers, including a little boy who crawls out from under a bed, as they run and fly along a beach.
Launched June 3 during the NBA Finals, the film invites gamers to "play fearlessly" on PlayStation, and it's unusual for the brand in that it doesn't highlight a specific game or product. It was directed by Reset's Garth Davis, who's known for directing "Top of the Lake," as well as the Oscar-nominated feature film "Lion."
