PlayStation's Merchant returns, with a bigger, more crowded store
Venables Bell & Partners brings back the shopkeep and his magical wares
Sep 21, 2018
The Merchant is back. Fans of the PlayStation store will recognize the dapper, mysterious shopkeep, purveyor of all kinds of dangerous, deadly and powerful video game paraphernalia. This time, Venables Bell & Partners has enlarged his shop into a full-blown bazaar.
No longer is he the sole occupant of the store. Inside its TARDIS-like interior (larger within than without), it contains multitudes, entire worlds and portals to yet more. He strolls, unperturbed by the chaos, surrounded by characters from PlayStation games: blacksmiths plying their trade and Roman centurions on guard duty. Through a tent flap lies a skyscraper under construction, and Spider-Man catches a ride on a passing helicopter.
Soldiers from “Call of Duty: Black Ops 4” breach and clear as denizens from games like “Kingdom Hearts III,” “God of War” and “Destiny 2” lounge, mill about or roughhouse. A final passage leads to a soccer stadium from “FIFA 19.” Rupert Sanders ("Ghost in the Shell," "Snow White and the Huntsman") directed, via MJZ.
