Earlier this year, Wired, Universal Pictures and Lone Shark Games announced a contestto promote the upcoming film Repomen, in which a group of people would be recruited to disappear from their normal lives and stay on the run, while being hunted by some mysterious others. The game is underway, and now the rest of the general public is invited to join the Repomen in the manhunt.

The absconders include a professional video game player, former military, a software specialist and a recent Stanford/grad and soccer player. Gameplayers who want to help locate them must enroll as Repomen. In order to give hunters a fair shake, each of the runners will have to complete a specific task, which will be announced online. Also, the March issue of Wired featured in the March issue of Wired, Twitter, and other sources testing the hunters' internet skills. For a hunter to collect bounty—$7,500, he/she must find a runner and say, “You’ve been repo’d.” Runners who remain undiscovered for the duration of the contest will win the same amount. The goal of the tasks is to give hunters who have figured out the location of runners a genuine chance to catch them. To further this goal, all sorts of clues are scattered. For example, people have found clues in the March issue of Wired, and in a code that connects to a story about Wired Repo Men in Sunday’s New York Times.
