Male Models Get a Grilling From Samantha Bee for New York Men's Fashion Week
Comedic Film Promotes Amazon Fashion's Sponsorship of Inaugural Event
Editor's Pick
Oh, poor male models. Thanks to movies like (our all-time favorite) "Zoolander," pop culture has long perpetuated your all looks-no brains stereotype. This continues in a funny new film promoting Amazon Fashion's sponsorship of the U.S.'s first ever Men's Fashion Week in New York -- with the help of comedian Samantha Bee.
Amazon tapped Sebastian and Saxon Eldridge of Hudsun Media to create this comedic faux news doc, in which Ms. Bee examines the "Plight of the Male Model," interviewing various male catwalkers about the job and such troubles as being typecast as "himbos" and "pretty-ots." As she gazes at them lecherously, in true Samantha Bee fashion, she pokes fun at them with her pointed questions -- she asks one Nordic type where he was discovered --"in Abercrombie and Fitch, or the Kingdom of Asgard?" But they prove to be apt comedic foils. For example, she asks one saucer-eyed, long-faced model which look is "in" right now --"big and beefy, skinny and sleek?" He responds, "Very, kind of alien-looking."
The film lives on a special section of the site devoted to Men's Fashion week, although we suspect most people today are reveling in the retailer's Prime celebration.
