Tree Decorations Save Christmas in Another Delightful Spot From Myer and Aardman
Australian Retailer Returns With Its Cute Animated Characters
Editor's Pick
Australian retailer Myer won us over last year with its animated holiday spot, a collaboration with Aardman that saw Christmas decorations brought to life with Aussie accents and humor. Now it's back with a sequel by agency Clemenger BBDO Melbourne, starring some of the same animated characters.
This time, Angel, Elf, Mouse and Reindeer find themselves having to "save" Christmas. The ad plays on little kids' questions about Santa and how he finds them, as a little girl asks her mother how Santa gets to Australia. The mom replies that he follows the stars of the Southern Cross. However, when shortly afterwards one of these stars falls out of the sky, the tree decorations need to get to work and replace it. Their ingenious solution involves a number of shiny household objects. As with last year, it's the combination of charming story and Aussie expressions ("that's carked it" says the mouse as the star disintegrates) that makes this work particularly well.
Peter Peake at Aardman directed the film, which will be accompanied by free interactive Christmas storybook titled "The Story of Santa's Star," featuring games and puzzles for kids to solve. The characters will also appear in limited edition merchandise at Myer stores.
