In Sweden, security company Sector Alarm has come up with an unusual way of advertising its monitored alarm systems. It's turning customers' homes into giant festive billboards lit up with Christmas lights helpfully telling burglars that the owners are not at home.

In one home outside Stockholm, a sign above the door carries the message: "We’re away for Christmas." Meanwhile, another sign announces in neon letters "Nobody home," with an arrow pointing at the entrance. The lights only light up when the owners leave the house and turn on the alarm. But they have nothing to fear--as the neon signs also announce the homes are protected with Sector Alarm systems.

The stunt is by agency Akestam Holst. "This kind of over the top-ish Christmas lighting isn’t that common over here, so this really stands out," copywriter Petter Nylind tells us.
