Seattle's famous Space Needle, built for the 1962 World's Fair, has been updated for the 21st century by Hornall Anderson in an ambitious project that's been branded SkyQ and themed "Live the View!" The concept is keyed to what Hornall calls an Immersion Interactive System, featuring "sub-brands" ranging from the Space Base (ground-level gift shop), to the SkyLine (100-foot level, where groups host special functions), to the rotating, completely redesigned restaurant now known as SkyCity, to the observation deck or O-Deck.
On this deck, where the "Live the View!" concept really kicks in, there's an Operable Camera Station where visitors can do high-def zooms and pans on the region. Other treats include a Voices of Seattle Station, the deliciously named Factoid Reveal Station, and the Time-Lapse Panorama Station, which features four 30-inch LCD panels that display what's billed as "a 360-degree, digitally stitched panoramic view of the Seattle skyline," as seen from the top the Needle. Besides all the interactive and environmental graphics, Hornall Anderson also created new identity, print collateral and merchandising materials.
