Increasingly barred from creating ads that imply it's cool to drink, alcohol brands are having to find new ways to differentiate themselves these days. Some, for example, channel heritage, which is the case with this latest effort from Bacardi.
The brand has commissioned two well-known graphic novel artists to create an online graphic novel called The Spirit of Bacardi. Writer Warren Ellis and illustrator Michael Allred use the medium to tell the story of Emilio Bacardi, the son of the famous brand's founder Don Facundo. Bacardi was a key player in the Cuban independence movement, and went on to become mayor of Santiago de Cuba. Readers can get the novel free as a digital download.
