ESPN Reacts to Cubs' World Series Win With a Witty SportsCenter Spot
Anchor Jay Harris Edits Kitchen Signs
Nov 03, 2016
As the Chicago Cubs won the World Series last night after 108 years, ESPN was one of the first brands to react with a witty "This Is SportsCenter" spot.
The spot, by Wieden & Kennedy New York, was directed by comedy master David Shane at O Positive and features anchor Jay Harris walking into the office kitchen and changing a sign saying "Years since the Cubs won the World Series" from "108" to "0."
Next to it is the familiar "Days since the last workplace accident" sign; a UConn Huskies mascot wearing a neck cone walks in and changes that to 0 too. A third sign, which remains unchanged, reads "Years since the last butt fumble," (four, in case you're wondering -- a reference to the infamous 2012 NFL game between the Jets and Patriots.) A great way to celebrate the Cubs' victory with in-jokes for avid sports fans of all kinds.
