To promote VW's Start-Stop technology, which switches the engine off when the car is stationary, the brand's Brazilian marketers have launched an app which stops YouTube videos automatically when you look away from the screen. The app, a Chrome plug-in created by Almap BBDO, uses facial recognition technology to capture when the viewer is looking away pausing the video. When they look back at the screen, it resumes.
Elsewhere in the world, the technology is being promoted by different marketing methods, including this video by Adam & Eve/DDB London, which features a father desperate to get his baby to sleep in the car.
