The Tiny Faces on This Massive Wall of Pills Pay Tribute Those Lost to the Opioid Epidemic
Energy BBDO Creates Disturbing Monument and Call to Action for the National Safety Council

A massive wall of pills pays tribute to those who lost their lives to opioid addiction in this unsettling effort from Energy BBDO Chicago, for the National Safety Council.
The "Stop Everyday Killers" public education campaign debuted last month in Chicago with "Prescribed to Death," a memorial featuring thousands of pills carved with human faces. The pills represent the 22,000 people who died from opioid addiction last year-- as well as the lives we continue to lose. Every 24 minutes, the memorial carves yet another face onto another pill, to represent how often a person succumbs to addiction.
The exhibit also features different rooms showcasing individuals affected by the crisis--parents who lost children, a man going through recovery. Videos tell their stories while visitors can engage with their real personal belongings.
The memorial will make stops at other big cities, including Atlanta, Washinton D.C. and Pittsburgh. The campaign also encourages viewers to take action and includes labels reading "Opioids: Warn Me," which consumers can attach to their insurance and pharmacy cards in order to encourage medical professionals to be forthcoming about opioids risks. NSC also teamed with Stericycle to create pre-paid envelopes that consumers can use to safely return unused medications. The labels and envelopes can be ordered through the campaign site, where they can also see more stories of people who lost their lives to opioid addiction.
