There are many ways to launch a new agency—send out a press release, leak the news to Ad Age, or just open quietly and steal your ex-clients—but here's one we haven't seen before: Portuguese agency Stream and Tough Guy hijacked a TV game show.
The agency's managing partner Joao Ribeiro entered Portugal's version of "The Price Is Right" as a contestant. In the segment of the show where entrants are invited to give a shout out to friends and family, he instead gave a shout-out to clients the agency wanted—like marketers from Santander, Coca-Cola and more.
After the show aired, the agency posted the video on LinkedIn, tagging the marketers they named—and got plenty of attention. According to creative partner Miguel Durao, the agency won three projects directly as a result of the stunt. (Bonus: Ribeiro also won an LCD TV and linen sheet set on the show.)
The pair met at BBDO Portugal, and between them have worked at agencies including Fuel Lisbon, Buzzman Paris, Grey New York and Johannes Leonardo. The name of the agency is an English translation of their two names from Portuguese—Durao means "tough guy" and Ribeiro means"stream."
