Hong Kong confectionery brand Rio Mints has launched a surreal new campaign based around the tagline "Surprisingly Fruity" and featuring some decidedly edgy puppetry. In the first ad, for Rio Burgundy Grape Mints, a young couple in swimwear are seated on a bench, the man holding a stuffed purple llama. When the girl offers him one of her Rio Burgundy Grape Mints, the young man is so overwhelmed that he fails to notice the llama come to life --- and start licking his nipple. Ogilvy & Mather Hong Kong created the ad, with which the agency says it wants "introduce to a breath of fresh air to Hong Kong's conservative advertising scene." It broke on the brand's Facebook page but will run on TV and be followed by further executions.
The ad was created under the leadership of CCO Reed Collins, who'd also done some other fun, out-there ads for Altoids and Tampax back in the day.
