The Simpsons' Couch Gag Gets French-ifed by 'Triplets of Belleville' Director Sylvain Chomet
Celebrated Animator Plays on Gallic Cliches in March 9 Episode
Editor's Pick
During its March 9, 2014 "Diggs" episode this weekend, The Simpsons will be adding another fresh take to its long-riffed-on couch gag, this time, in the hands of noted animator Sylvain Chomet, best known for his Oscar nominated films "The Triplets of Belleville," "L'illusionniste" and "The Old Lady and the Pigeons." As the family settles into its familiar couch scene, the lights go out and then flicker back on to reveal Mr. Chomet's decidedly "French" makeover of Homer, Bart, Lisa, Marge and Maggie, who becomes the butt of the joke, literally.
Mr. Chomet works out of production company th1ng, which also helped produce the sequence. He joins a cast of illustrious list of gag contributors, which includes Guillermo del Toro, Bill Plympton and Banksy.
