A Tesco driver travels 'Back to the Future'-style through the decades to deliver Christmas treats

BBH creates retailer's centennial spot directed by Traktor

A Tesco delivery driver travels through time in this year's holiday spot by the U.K.'s biggest grocer, celebrating its centenary. 

The spot, by BBH, is directed by Traktor and set to The Ronettes' version of "Sleigh Ride." It sees the driver on his last shift before Christmas, suddenly transported (a little bit "Back to the Future"-style) by some Christmas lights into Victorian London where some street urchins enjoy his "food from the future.". But before you worry that this is going to be similar to the Dickensian story employed by rival supermarket Sainsbury's, we're suddenly fast-forwarded into the 1940s as he's seen delivering a crate to Winston Churchill in Downing Street. He also calls in on the Queen, and at a 90s rave, a 70s-style party and the set of the 1980s darts show, "Bullseye" before returning home to his own family.

It's all good fun, and while it might lack some of the epic fairytale qualities of some of its rivals' Christmas offerings, it's well pitched at a broad audience. 

The campaign will comprise TV, press, OOH, radio, digital, social, in-store, PR and experiential as well as a bespoke AR Lens with Snapchat and a Facebook arcade game, in which customers can go behind the wheel of the Tesco delivery van themselves.
