The Zimbabwean newspaper is raising awareness of the continuing brutalities in Zimbabwe (which continue despite the media spotlight being currently on the troubles in North Africa) with a major billboard campaign in South African cities.
Entitled The Voiceless, the posters feature real-life victims of Robert Mugabe's dictatorial regime, taken by photojournalists whose images are suppressed within Zimbabwe itself, adding a map of Zimbabwe as an empty speech bubble. They direct viewers to a website where they can read more about the photographs, hear eyewitness accounts and locate the images in context on a satellite map. The images are also available to view on a Flickr page.
Agency TBWA is also working on social media efforts, with a blog to be launched later in the week that will include live correspondents from Harare. Its previous work for the newspaper has highlighted Zimbabwe's problems with inflation.
