Typographic treatment for Pynchon.

Editor's Pick

Pentagram and The Penguin Press join forces to promote the publication of the entire Thomas Pynchon backlist -- from V. of 1963 to 2009's Inherent Vice in e-book format.

A dazzling trailer applies typographic treatment to famous lines from Pynchon's various works--the camera shoots through the swoops and arches of the letters. It also brings elements of the books' classic covers to life. Chips New York created both the motion design and soundtrack. According to Penguin Press Marketing Director Ryan Chapman, Pentagram worked with nothing but hi-res jpgs of author-approved cover designs--"a case of making lemonade from lemons," he says.

Despite this pretty landmark project, Pynchon himself won't be one of the folks rushing to get copies of his books on his Kindle or Nook. Apparently, he likes to read in print.
