All the Suspense In This Spot Leads Up to... Reading The New Yorker

Director J.C. Chandor ( "A Most Violent Year," "Margin Call") shot this suspenseful film for The New Yorker in L.A.'s historic Union Station. If that sounds incongruous, then it's worth noting that the film isn't actually about being in New York; instead, the sense of anticipation and impatience as a man makes his way through the station to his train is leading up to something else.

As he goes, he passes various characters and stories unfolding (a guy being arrested by cops, a violin player, a girl angrily dumping stuff in a trash can). But for him, the real excitement begins when he gets on the train... and opens his copy of The New Yorker. He's not the only one, either.

Agency SS & K says the piece "celebrates the anticipation before one dives into The New Yorker" and also focuses on the everyday stories around us that the magazine is so good at telling. The TV spot is supported by a print campaign shot by photographer Stephen Wilkes showing an eclectic crowd of readers enjoying the same edition of The New Yorker on a beach and a packed subway car.
