To promote its new Assassin's Creed Syndicate release, out later this month, Ubisoft imagines what the internet might have looked like in 1868, the year in which the latest version of game is set in London. Agency BETC created the 19th Century Search Engine website, where fans of the game can type in typical popular search terms (there are some helpful suggestions, like physician, babies or social skills) and see what might have popped up in Victorian England.
The results are detailed and witty reimaginings of what a 19th century version of Google might have produced: from to contemporary news reports, to classified ads ("become an anatomical dissection model") hilarious property listings, as well as memes and the kind of funny e-card you share on Facebook, Victorian style. BETC used real illustrations from the era to create the original content.
Assasin's Creed Syndicate will launch October 23 for Xbox One and PS4, with the PC version coming a month later on November 19.
