USA Networks, with the aid of partner Saab USA and agency Omelet, LA, has launched a continual online gaming experience called "Covert Ops".
The game, which launched during the July 17th premiere of season two, episode two of USA's spy series Burn Notice, sends players on nine weekly covert missions that coincide with the series' story arc. The missions turn you into an operative with the goal of helping Fiona--the ex-girlfriend of the show's blacklisted international spy Michael Westen--and a new client solve their cases.
In the first mission, you are given a PDA that includes video messages and texts from Fiona, played on Burn by Gabrielle Anwar. She'll drop various hints, directions and clues that'll eventually lead you to your ride, a Saab which sits on the sunny beaches of Miami, the show's central location.
Once inside, you can look around, close windows, check out the soundtrack to the series on your radio, scan a GPS map and open a glove compartment. This reveals a car manual which links directly to Saab USA's homepage as well as a link to buy the soundtrack. More importantly, a tattered business card reveals a number on the back to dial on your virtual PDA, which triggers a new SMS from Fiona. She then links you to a panicked webcam video message from your other client who needs to be saved.
Each mission, which will launch around the weekly Thursday broadcasts of new episodes, will feature further instructions, interactive video hints, emails and texts from the cast. Throughout, you will be indulging in fun espionage activities like shutting down security systems, planting evidence, performing phone taps and more.
