Electrolux dove deep to create its new line of limited edition vacuum cleaners, Vacs from the Sea, adorned with vibrant, lively shells created out of repurposed garbage.

The company spent months scouring the bottom of the globe's major oceans for plastic discards for five new models, named after the various bodies of water from which their materials were gathered: North Sea Edition, Indian Ocean Edition, Mediterranean Sea Edition, Pacific Ocean Edition and Baltic Sea Edition. The new vacs embody what the brand calls the "plastic paradox"—oceans are full of plastic waste, but there is a shortage of the material for producing sustainable vacs. The brand already makes a "Green Range" of cleaners from 70% recycled plastic, but aims for that to reach 100%.

Electrolux plans to auction off one of the vacs and use the revenue for further recycllng research. The remaining models will go on tour at industry and consumer forums.
